Katabasis, terme grec ancien désignant la descente d'un héros aux enfers. Alice Law, étudiante diplômée, n'a toujours eu qu'un seul objectif : devenir la plus grande experte en magie analytique. Mais la seule personne qui peut réaliser son rêve est morte et se trouve, malheureusement, en enfer. Alice, accompagnée de son plus grand rival Peter Murdoch, part à sa recherche. Mais l'enfer n'est pas tel que le décrivent les philosophes, ses règles sont inversées, et si elle veut s'en sortir vivante, elle devra collaborer avec Peter.
