Darrow n’est pas un héros. Tout ce qu’il souhaite, c’est vivre heureux avec l’amour de sa vie. Mais les Ors, les dirigeants de la Société, en ont décidé autrement. Ils lui ont tout enlevé : sa raison de vivre, ses certitudes, jusqu’à son reflet dans le miroir. Darrow n’a plus d’autre choix que de devenir comme ceux qui l’écrasent. Pour mieux les détruire. Il va être accepté au légendaire Institut, y être formé avec l’élite des Ors, dans un terrain d’entraînement grandeur nature. Sauf que même ce paradis est un champ de bataille. Un champ de bataille où règnent deux règles : tuer ou être tué, dominer ou être dominé.

Darrow is a Helldiver, one of a thousand men and women who live in the vast caves beneath the surface of Mars, generations of people who spend their lives toiling to mine the precious elements that will allow the planet to be terraformed.
